About Us

The Dominica Association of Ottawa is a community organization consisting of Dominican diaspora and friends of Dominica. The Dominica Association of Ottawa has been in operation since 2005.

The Dominica Association of Ottawa is not a registered charity but instead works through partner organizations to support activities in Dominica. Tax receipts for donations will be issued by our partners.

The Dominica Recovery Project

Dominica's population of 73,000 has never experienced a storm this severe in its history. With most of the islands critical infrastructures including 80% of the schools sustaining severe damage, it is an imperative that the recovery efforts concentrate on buildings and infrastructure that can withstand such storms that can hit regularly.

Education is key to the country's future
In response to Hurricane Maria, the Rotary Club of Orleans and Rotary Club of Nepean - Kanata in partnership with the Dominica Association of Ottawa are working together to raise funds for the Dominica Recovery Project to help the Commonwealth of Dominica in its efforts to become a climate resilient nation.

The Dominica Recovery Project will help develop a well-trained skill base to contribute to and support Dominica's climate resilience thrust. Successful project outcomes will help Dominica become a "Centre of Excellence" for Climate Resilient Homes (CRM).

The Rotary Clubs of Orleans has established a presence in Dominica with activities focused on training teachers working with special needs children and on the rebuilding of schools and provision of learning materials. We will be working with Canadian partners in education and the skilled trades as well as the Dominican government, institutions, industries and rotary clubs who can best assess the need.
